Closing Celebration Friday, June 22 at Noon

Come join us as we travel through this adventure park each day!

  • Monday our park visitors will learn to choose to believe as they hear the story of the man born blind and discover that when the park closes the park characters come to life.  But one of them goes missing!
  • Tuesday our park visitors learn to choose to act as they discover the call to care for others through the story of the curing of the ten lepers. One of the park characters will have a tough decision to make, we'll find out what she chooses.
  • Wednesday our park visitors are challenged to choose forgiveness while they grow in their understanding of the story of the cure of the paralyzed man. During the skit we'll see Blackbird the pirate take this message to heart.
  • Thursday our park visitors will learn that we must choose to obey as they hear the story of the rich young man who struggles with this choice. In the skit one of the cast must overcome his fears in order to help his friends. What choice will he make?
  • Friday begins early with mass at 8AM followed by a special program in the church before we return to our schedule and are called to choose Jesus. Our park visitors will hear how the apostles had to make this choice when Jesus appeared to them following the resurrection. During the skit his same choice will be faced by one of our park characters. We'll end the day with a picnic celebration at Noon with park visitors' parents.

New features this year include:

  • a separate track for fifth graders giving them a opportunity to take on some special roles and projects.
  • an improved soundsystem to facilitate the skit presentations
  • an expanded music station for the 1-5th graders with piano accompaniment
  • first through fifth graders will each have a time when they come together for some exciting projects with the other 2 or 3 small groups for their grade level
  • some special activities to help prepare for our parish feast day celebrations on June 28 & 29

To make the week happen it takes lots of people working together.

We will have seperate stations for the 1st/2nd graders, 3rd/4th graders and even a seperate track for 5th graders for the first time. This means we need even more help than last year. Please consider offering your gifts in one of these areas:

Adult leaders direct the groups through the activities at the stations.

High Schoolers team with the adults and assist in presenting the themes and activities. Our Middle School Support Team get an opportunity to put their faith in action, serving as guides, skit team members, and helpers with the crafts, music, snacks and recreation.

Vacation Bible School 2007

was held June 18-22. We had 252 3 Year olds through 5th graders come to the camp from 8:30-Noon.  Twenty one adults and 17 High Schoolers worked together in presenting the theme of a Son Treasure Island that reminded us of to share God's love with others. In addition we had over 90 Middle School youth serve in a variety of support roles.

Below in pictures and narrative is a recap of the week.

Each day began with an assembly, led by our skit team. They introduced the daily themes.

Then it was off to our stations. A Middle School guide would lead our safari groups from station to station. Preschooler-Kinder, Primary and Intermediate youth each followed a different trail through the day.

Here some primary campers (first and second graders) are hearing the Bible story for the day.

Here our little ones stop to play

with our blocks.

on the daily theme.

Snack time is always a big hit. Here is a group of our preschool campers.

Learning about the daily themes and discovering more about the Bible were the focus of several stations.

Motions went with all of our songs It took lots of practice. At left the preschoolers are at together time, and the music station, while below some of the older campers work on their songs.

We began Friday at morning mass and after taking our trip through the stations we ended the week with a closing program at noon for all the family with hot dogs and more.

Our Middle School Support Team came in for one of a number of workdays and created our environment, painting, setting up, getting craft supplies together and much more. They were group guides, skit members, arts and craft aides, snack helpers and so much more. They also had some time to relax together in the afternoons whether it was for games, swimming at the pool, ice skating, bowling or at Crocodile Gap for minature golf and go-kart racing they were always enthusiastic in all they did.

How can I help:

Adults & High School Youth:

You can download the volunteer forms from the box at the bottom of this page or email Bill Smith

Activity Center Leaders The VBS Manuals spell out each activity and describe materials need and preparation.  Its easy and fun to do.  You are responsible for a 15-20 minute segment of the day. Following the skit small groups of 8-15 campers visit your center throughout the day. You repeat your segment to each group as they arrive. The park visitors will be divided into four different levels as a leader you work with the 7 or 8 small groups for that one level--Preschool-Kinder; Primary -1st and 2nd graders, Intermediates -3rd and 4th graders; or Middlers- 5th graders.

Bible Story Leaders: Teaches the Bible story to each group as it visits the Bible Story Center and leads the Life Application time after the story.

Craft Leaders: Chooses craft projects, gathers materials, explains and supervises the crafts during each group's visit to the Craft Center; may recruit helpers

Recreation Leaders: Chooses games, gathers supplies and leads children in playing the games; may recruit helpers.

Snack Leaders: Chooses snacks, gathers ingredients, recruits helpers and leads groups of children in the preparation of daily snacks.

Music Leaders: Directs activities in the Music Center and leads singing during assemblies. Prepares children to present music at the Mini-Musicale at the Closing Program.

Bible Games Activity Leaders: Plans, gathers materials and leads activities. As with each of these activities everythin is spelled out in the VBS manuals.

*Nursery coordinator: We normally have 2-4 infants and toddlers of our adult staff who need to be cared for during the program. Two or three of our middle school support staff assist the coordinator.

Office Staff: Registers children, maintains records and gets supplies and notes to the various centers.

Middle School Support Team:   Download application and information letter in the box below.

Our Middle Schoolers (incoming 6th-8th graders) serve in the mornings in a variety of areas and then stay during the afternoons for some fun group activities. Last year these included swimming, bowling and ice skating.  Middle Schoolers must sign up and attend one of the three work days  as well as the Orientation day.

  • Guides: Escort groups to activity centers, build relationships with children, assist children and maintain discipline. Guides should be prepared to talk and pray with children regarding following Christ.
  • Skit Team:  Presents the daily skit at the Opening Assembly each and leads the Closing Celebration on Friday evening.

  •  Aide at one of the Centers—Snack, Recreation, Craft, and Music all need  additional help.
  • Support Staff  Assist the Office staff in getting supplies, etc. to the appropriate stations.
